What is Chronic Pain?

Chronic pain is pain that persists beyond the expected recovery time for an injury, or that continues without a clear structural cause. It’s defined as pain lasting longer than three months, and it’s far more common than most people realise affecting daily function, sleep, mood, and quality of life in ways that go well beyond the physical sensation itself. Chronic pain often involves changes in how the nervous system processes pain signals (called central sensitisation), which is why a purely physical approach doesn’t always tell the whole story and why being properly listened to and assessed matters as much as the treatment itself.

How We Treat It at MyoActive

  • Assess — We take a thorough history of your pain when it started, what makes it better or worse, how it’s affecting your sleep and daily activities before building any plan. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to chronic pain.
  • Treat — Hands-on therapy including manual therapy, dry needling, and cupping to ease physical tension and reduce the pain burden on your nervous system, paced to what your body responds to.
  • Support — A personalised plan that may combine hands-on sessions, Pilates or graded exercise, and self-management strategies built around your goals, adjusted as you go, and designed to work alongside any other care you’re receiving.

What to Expect

  • We won’t promise a quick fix, chronic pain is genuinely complex, and anyone who promises otherwise isn’t being honest. What we will do is listen carefully, explain what we think is contributing, and work with you over time to help reduce the impact pain is having on your life. We’re also happy to work alongside your GP, psychologist, or other practitioners if you’re already seeing them.

From Physiotherapy, Myotherapy and Remedial Massage to Pilates and a premium gym experience, everything you need for your chronic pain is under one roof.

Care led by an experienced chronic pain syndrome focused physiotherapist team.

When to See Someone?

If pain has been present for more than three months, significantly affecting your daily function, sleep, or mood, it’s worth getting a proper assessment rather than continuing to manage alone. If you’ve been told “nothing is wrong” structurally but pain persists, that’s actually a very common chronic pain presentation and still something we can work with.
