What is a Myotherapist?
Myotherapists are trained experts in injury diagnosis, injury treatment, exercise prescription, injury prevention, rehabilitation and many other areas of sport and health and fitness. They will help you become pain free, or reduce your symptoms of pain through corrective exercise, hands on manual therapy and strength rehabiltation.
What do I need to bring?
Be prepared to provide your previous medical or surgical history. If you have them and if they are relevant bring scan/MRI reports, and list of medication. You may wish to bring shorts and t-shirt. We have treatment gowns at the clinic for all clients to change into if necessary.
How many visits will I need?
The number of treatments will vary depending on the problem and individual. After a thorough assessment, the myotherapist will discuss their treatment plan for the rehabilitation process. On average most clients are pain-free within 5 treatments and have a severe reduction in pain after 3, although it is a case by case basis.
What should I wear to my appointment?
If we are treating your feet you will not be asked to undress but if we are treating your spine, you will be asked to take off your shirt or wear a gown. Shorts are more appropriate due to being asked to move around and do an active assessment.
Will I get treated during my first session?
YES. While we start your initial assessment with a thorough Full-Body Assessment, which includes a look at your posture and the way you move. Your first visit will also include a thorough hands-on treatment session. As we get to know you and how your body works, it is important for us to combine treatment and continual reassessment.
Do I have to be referred by a doctor?
No, Myotherapists can assess and treat without referral by a doctor. With all our Myotherapists we provide health rebates which can be from 30-70% of the total consultation price depending on your cover.
Treatment duration depends on your diagnosis, the severity of your impairments, your past medical history, and other factors. Re-evaluations will be done to assess your progress and your therapist communicates with your physician to help you achieve your therapy goals.
