What is Golfer's Elbow?

Golfer’s elbow (medial epicondylitis or epicondylalgia) is pain on the inner side of the elbow, where the forearm flexor tendons attach to the medial epicondyle. It’s caused by repetitive overload of the wrist and finger flexors common in golfers, but also in climbers, tradespeople, throwing athletes, and gym-goers doing heavy pulling or grip work. Like tennis elbow, it builds gradually and is often mismanaged with prolonged rest, which allows the tendon to decondition further rather than actually recover.

Symptoms

  • Pain or tenderness on the inside of the elbow
  • Pain that worsens with gripping, throwing, or wrist flexion
  • Weakness in the hand or wrist
  • Occasional tingling or pins and needles into the ring and little finger

How We Treat It at MyoActive

  • Assess — We identify the specific load or technique issue driving the overload often in the shoulder, forearm, or grip pattern rather than just treating where it hurts.
  • Treat — Manual therapy and dry needling to the forearm flexors, cupping to improve blood flow and reduce tension in the overloaded tissue.
  • Rebuild — A progressive loading program for the forearm flexors and wrist, matched to how the tendon is actually healing not a blanket “rest and stretch” plan that keeps the cycle going.

When to See Someone?

If pain on the inside of the elbow has been present for more than a few weeks, or keeps flaring when you return to the activity that caused it, it’s worth getting properly assessed. Tingling or numbness into the fingers alongside elbow pain can sometimes involve the ulnar nerve running nearby worth mentioning at your assessment so we can check for that specifically.
